EUCC

Coastal and Marine Union (EUCC) is the largest coastal network in Europe, linking 2750 institutions and individuals involved in coastal management, planning, research, engineering, pollution control, and conservation at national, regional and local level. EUCC’s mission is to gather and provide information and give advice based upon the best scientific data. Information is tailored specifically to aid policy formulation and decision-making related to the coast. The association is involved in an increasing number of state of the art projects and initiatives in the field of integrated coastal management. Of particular help is EUCC´s multilinguality - our staff members speak most European languages, which makes it much easier to solve communication problems across the continent. Key Fields of expertise are as follows: Coastal Policy, Planning and Management - EUCC expertise covers coastal planning and management, policy development and institutional aspects, protected area planning and management, sustainable coastal tourism, stakeholder participation and project management; and Information, Communication and Training: Recognising that coastal zone management relies on efficient flow of information and a well-informed civil society, EUCC has built considerable expertise in the field of information, communication and capacity building in costal management. EUCC is involved in a wide range of national and international projects ranging from monitoring campaigns to capacity building and public awareness raising programmes, many of them related to ICZM. EUCC has several projects, which aim to improve the knowledge of coastal stakeholders with respect to nature conservation and wise use of the countryside, a key element of ICZM programmes.
