The Institute of Oceanology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IOBAS) is the principal national research body for the multidisciplinary investigation of the Black Sea and the adjacent water basins. Environmental research focuses on marine biodiversity, pelagic and benthic community ecology and response to natural and anthropogenic pressures, sustainable utilisation of marine living resources, and marine protected areas. IOBAS also offers consulting services, environmental impact assessments, education and training.
