Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU), Norway

NILU is an independent research institute with 135 employees, founded in 1969, and SME. The institute conducts environmental research with emphasis on the sources of pollution, atmospheric and water transport and transformation, deposition and other removal processes, effects of pollution on ecosystems, materials and health and cost-benefit analysis of environmental strategies. The Centre for Ecological Economics (CEE) at NILU will carry out research within the KnowSeas project. CEE has gained experience in applying cost benefit and cost effectiveness analyses for various environmental policies, including marine and coastal management policies.
The Centre also specialises in developing future scenarios for chemical fluxes and environmental exposure, as well as in assessing the cost of implementation of various strategies related to these scenarios.

Guardians of the Oceans documentary
This short documentary by Futuris gives a glimpse into how researchers on several European marine projects are trying to assess the oceans of tomorrow.  It considers overfishing, pollution, coastal degradation and other issues relevant to the KnowSeas project.
