National Marine Fisheries Research Institute (NMFRI), Poland

The National Marine Fisheries Research Institute (NMFRI) founded in 1921 is the oldest marine research institution in Poland. The SFI is an organizational unit of the Polish fisheries administration and conducts scientific research in the fields of fishery biology, fishery oceanography and marine ecology, processing technology, and fishery economics. The SFI also acts in an advisory capacity for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The SFI conducts research mainly on the Baltic Sea fishery resources but also in other seas. The overall tasks of SFI fit closely to the ICES Strategic Plan and to the majority of the priorities for scientific research in support of Common Fishery Policy of the EU (e.g. scientific bases of integrated fisheries management).
